Trees in the lagoon attract a great variety of nectar eating birds in the wet season. Two areas have matured northern Australian rain forest trees. Shrubs have been planted to support butterflies, both as caterpillars and adults, and insects such as native bees.

There are two nearby (5 minutes) shopping centres at Virgina and Coolalinga and a larger centre in Palmerston (10 minutes). Darwin is 30 minutes away by car. There is a preschool at Virginia and a number of primary and secondary schools in the Palmerston and rural area.
